Terrorists suspected of belonging to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) attacked a military facility in Jalingo, Taraba State’s capital.
On Tuesday night, ISWAP terrorists hurled an explosive device over the fence of the military base, which is located along the Taraba State House of Assembly-Sabon Gari route.
According to first reports handed in by a NaijaNews correspondent in the state, a passerby hurled the explosive device over the fence, however it is unclear whether the pedestrian had any backing or support from coworkers.
When our journalist visited the site on Tuesday night, shortly after the explosion was heard about 9 p.m. in the state capital, soldiers refused to let anybody pass past the barricade, effectively closing off the entire region to civilians.
However, a military source at the base who talked to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity on Wednesday morning said there were no casualties and no damage to the facility because the device landed on an aircraft ground.
Attempts to obtain an official response from the military were futile as of press time. Residents of Taraba State were left terrified when a bomb explosion was heard in Jalingo, the state’s main city, on Tuesday. There was tangible anxiety in the state capital as a result of the development.
